The Foundation Series - #1 L'Oreal Lumi Magique

Hello Lovelies! Ugh I want to kick this one off with another apology.. again no posts this week, only at weekends... more excuses.. I am struggling to find the time at evenings, I have night school on Tuesday and Thursday evenings till half past seven and I am in between my boyfriend's house and my own house all the time - I am almost always at home at weekends then at his all week as I live 9 miles from work but he lives in the same town. I can't drive, so for ease I stay there all week - I had my first driving lesson today though, it was so good! I usually blog when I'm home because I leave a lot of things there, like my laptop and DSLR, his room is pretty small with poor lighting so I get better pictures at home - I have decided to solve the issue now by taking all my blog post photographs on a weekend then posting through the week which I know lots of people do! Anyway, enough rambling about me!

One of the biggest challenges I come across with make-up is finding a great foundation that is right for you. I'm still hunting for my ever perfect foundation and because of this I have many half empty bottles of foundations/tinted moisturizers etc. so I decided to do a Foundation Series. Personally I love foundation reviews so I thought a series may help people if they are on the hunt for a new foundation.
The most important things I look for in a foundation are -
  • Coverage - What coverage am I looking for and does this foundation provide this for me?
  • Longevity - How long does this foundation last on my face? How does this foundation look after 4 hours, 8 hours? Do  I need to touch - up or re-apply? Does this foundation melt/slide? Does it oxidise?
  • How does this foundation interact with my skin? Does it break me out? Does it dry my skin out?
  • Overall finish - How good is this foundation as a base for the rest of my make - up? Is the shade right for me? Is the finish even?
These things are the factors which make or break a foundation for me so these are the things I'm planning to cover in this series.

My skin type is combination. It's generally oily - especially on the chin and around the nose where oil builds up through the day - these are the main areas the foundation melts and slides from. I am also quite prone to spots if my skin gets too oily and isn't properly cleansed.

Kicking of the series I've chosen L'Oreal Lumi Magique as it's fairly new and I've seen it advertised a lot, it retails at £10.99 One thing I don't like to do is talk too negatively about products but sometimes it has to be done and I need to start by saying this foundation was not right for me at all.  I like a dewy finish so your skin looks healthy and natural but I like good coverage, I get very small break outs regularly and they tend to scar for a while before they disappear so I like the coverage to hide this. I chose L'Oreal Lumi Magique as it is described as a 'light infusing foundation' giving you  'flawless skin as if lit from within' using 'liquid light technology' woah sounds like a miracle product to me.. flawless skin.. light infusing foundation.. I'll buy this.
Unfortunately I have no idea what shade I bought as it says nowhere on the bottle and I have had it maybe 4 months ish.

So what do I make of this product? The overall finish after it is first appl.ied is nice and the coverage is good as you can see from the photos below (I have literally no make-up on aside from the foundation here). This foundation probably would need a powder to set it - so I would use MUA's pressed powder that I use with most liquid foundations. The problem with this foundation comes down to longevity. If you wear this foundation for 4 hours, it's oxidised to be more orange toned and your face is sooooooo shiny! The other day I had run out of foundation so picked this up to use and two hours later my nana goes 'what have you got on your face? It looks so oily!' and it does! Also as it's a oily foundation it doesn't last long on my face at all, by lunchtime at work (12pm) its totally gone and I look horrible, alongside this, I did break out in a few spots due to the excess oil!

The verdict - The overall finish is nice and the coverage is good but this foundation is oily, goes super shiny, slides off and oxidises to become orangey patches after 4-5 hours. If you have oily skin this may not be the foundation for you.

The Reccommendation - If you're looking for a highstreet product with a dewy finish I recommend Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation which will be featured in this foundation series!

Sorry this post was so lengthy, the next featured in the series shouldn't be so long as I won't need to explain everything.

Next in the series - Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer.

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts? What would you like to see in a foundation series?

    1. Thanks, I'm so glad, I just don't want people to get bored haha! I personally didn't like it but I have oily skin which can become irritated easily and is prone to break outs!

  3. Thanks for the review, i LOVE reading posts on foundations (high street in particular) - I'm constantly searching for the perfect one so this has been a great help :D - I use rimmels wake me up for weekdays and then for weekends/nights out/special occasions I use estee lauders 'double wear' which is just incredible but very expensive xx
