Maybelline The Mega Plush Volum' Express Mascara | Review

Maybelline Mega Plus Mascara £7.99

It's been a while since I used a mascara which wasn't Benefit for no reason at all really. I love Benefits They're Real mascara as it adds definition, volume and darkens the lashes to the blackest of black however recently my own they're real has gone really thin, wet and gloopy, I'm not sure what's up but it's going to have to go in the bin!

I always used to use drugstore mascara as the brands have great ranges and lots of choice. Recently I have noticed a hike in the prices of drugstore make up and mascara seems to have been hit especially however this mascara was on introductory offer at £5.99 so is still a fraction of the price of high end mascaras.

Maybelline seem to constantly bring out new mascaras meaning they have a large range which are all grouped together. This mascara is part of the Volum' Express range and is Maybelline's first gel mascara which uses 40% less hard waxes to reduce and prevent flaking. As you can see above the brush is large and has a flexible wand. Personally I find larger brushes a little more difficult to work with as they don't get right down to the roots of the lashes for extra length but this brush wasn't much of a problem. This mascara evenly coated the lashes and didn't deposit too much product onto the lashes which I liked as I hate it when brushes are overloaded with product making the lashes clumpy and spidery. I managed to achieve natural looking long lashes with this mascara with no problem, they look naturally full and volume can be built up by applying extra layers, I don't like to apply too many layers as I hate it when mascara starts to look clumpy.

I have noticed there is some transfer of the mascara under the eyes through the day which I don't like but it's not too much of a problem if you avoid touching the eyes and check underneath them through the day. As for the 'no flakes' claim, the mascara does still flake, it's not the best or the worst in that department it's just okay.

Overall I think as a budget mascara which is under £10, this is great if you want natural looking long lashes, plus the packaging is a pretty colour.

  1. I'm doing some mascara tests at the moment working on a "mascara series" for my blog (isn't that always the case with us beauty bloggers? Always in the midst of some test/review of a product, haha) Might have to add this one to the bunch! Thanks for the review, Jayde :) xx

  3. I like the look of this one! I've been using Maybelline's Rocket Volume mascara but this one looks like it has way more volume whilst still looking natural. Might have to give it a go after reading this :)
